CHESAPEAKE BAY TRUST – STORMWATER COLLECTION AND OUTREACH PROJECT
Goals and Objectives
The goal of this project is to advance the knowledge and application of stormwater management in western Maryland. There are three specific objectives. The first is creation of a subsurface stormwater collection and storage network consisting of 2,500 feet of buried pipe and two buried water storage devices capable of holding 40,000 gallons of water that will then be converted from environmental hazard to environmental benefit—water for our sustainable agriculture training center. Note: our site consists of gravel on top of relatively impervious landscaping cloth and compacted soil from mining. A second objective of our proposed project is to conduct site-based outreach and education using a unique stormwater BMP display we will construct that uses water from our storage tanks to simulate rainfall on various stormwater control devices as well as natural forest and impervious surface. The third objective of our project is to conduct off-site outreach related to stormwater, stormwater effects on living resources, and cost-effective stormwater management.
